Write a blog post on your research article to present your scientific findings to a broad audience. Blogs will increase the visibility of your research work, which can lead to gain in citations and fame. You work on your research project for years and it takes 3 months to a year to publish that in a peer reviewed journal. It will hardly take a day to write a blog post on that research article. Do it now and send it to us. Here are 10 important points you should consider.
Public writing is different from technical writing. Everyone reading your blog does not need to be an expert in your field of research and hence you need to write in a very simple and engaging manner.
Decide what part of the research article you want to highlight, whether it’s the methodology, the research results, or real-world application. Write down at least five important points you would like to bring across in the blog. Use these points and create a story.
Once you have a story in mind, create an informative and interesting headline. Avoid using abbreviations in the title.
Start writing your blog with an introduction that provides context for your research. Describe the problem you solved and the significance of the study.
Since your audience is not an expert, try to simplify complex concepts into very simple and engaging words. Avoid using jargon. Write in very simple language as the aim is to communicate science.
$. Once you have set the stage by clearly writing the context, start writing about the key results you have obtained, in a clear and concise manner.
$. Highlight your methods.
$. Too much technical details are not required.
$. Don’t use long sentences.
$. Break in multiple paragraphs.
$. References are very important but do not use scientific style (xyz et al..) rather provide hyperlinks in the text.
$. Avoid using field specific keywords, explain them if used.
Use images, charts etc. to make your blog more engaging. Don’t forget to give caption.
Write about the practical implications and real-life applications of your research work. Explain how the results of your research can benefit society or a particular industry sector.
You can address the study’s limitations, as demonstrating transparency increases credibility. You can invite readers to comment and ask questions or share their thoughts and viewpoints.
Add the names of your co-authors in the text and ask if they have any specific comments/opinions to add to the blog. You can add their comments/opinions in the last paragraph of the blog.
Once the blog is published, promote your work through your professional networks, educational platforms, and social media to reach a wider audience. Respond to comments and feedback on your blog posts and engage in constructive conversations to make a good impression.
